The MB-550-RC Double Coil Spring Offset Jaws Trap is designed for use in taking coyote, bobcat, fox and raccoon. This trap has an outside jaw spread of 5 1/2" and an inside jaw spread of 4 3/4". The cast jaw face is 3/8" thick and the offset is 3/16". This trap has a Paws-I-Trip pan system and a night latched dog. Pan tension after waxing the trap on the two coiled version runs an average of 2.1 pounds which we have found to be a very good number for a multi species trap.
The MB-550-RC has been tested extensively over a three year period on coyote, bobcat, red fox, grey fox, and raccoon. This trap is fast and excellent results were obtained using it two coiled. We do not recommend using the 4-coiled version if grey fox is your target animal. The 550 is an excellent live market trap as well as the trap to use on a mixed species line. Small enough for fox and tough enough for the nastiest coyote.
We personally (along with many of our customers who have used the 550) prefer underalls to pan covers for this trap. The underalls increase the pan tension slightly resulting in full pad or foot catches and the number of snapped traps is reduced to near zero. We have obtained excellent results on grey fox with the 2-coiled 550 and underalls.
Note: If you are not planning on 4-coiling your MB-550-RC's we strongly recommend cutting the excess spring pins off leaving 1/2" protruding from the frame.

Rare 1st Coyote Catch with the MB-550!!!

I ran a few MB-550’s on my trap line (my first time ever running one) and had great success with them. I caught several foxes, and lucked up with my first coyote catch as well! I’m an amateur at this, so I only caught one coyote the entire season. However, the one I did catch was a rare beautiful black/chocolate color phase one! This big male coyote was only toe caught, but the MB-550 held him there none the less.

Traps are quality made. Ready to go out of the box. No adjustments needed just clean, dye, and wax. Night click on pan makes setting traps easy. Got them to trap coyotes and have been really pleased how they don't hurt the other animals that get caught but are strong enough to hold a coyote. You won't find a better made trap.

These MB-550s are ready to use, straight out of the box. It is a quality trap with very consistent production quality. I would prefer a 5 or 5 1/2" inside jaw spread, but they are still effective at 4 3/4". I would recommend these traps to anyone looking for a quality trap.
Durable, consistent, minimal setup.
Upfront cost is higher than other traps.

Even though not trapping season, took advantage of no shipping charges and purchased MB-550s that I have been wanting to try. Shipped quickly. I've read a lot of good reviews and after examining the traps, I can see why such great reviews. The well constructed trap is solid, stout for sure. The two coils seem to be enough for my target coyotes. The bottom strap bolted on and I like that. And the night latch, puts it right where it needs to be. I'm excited about preparing these for this upcoming season. What a deal from Flemming!

Hands down the best traps I have ever handled or seen figured I would save money on cheaper brands in the past.
