The Fleming Dog Proof Raccoon Trap features a fully enclosed dog proof design with powerful double coil springs, a pull only trigger system and a straight spade staking system.
The Dog Proof Trap Set Tool is recommended since the springs are very strong and if you set very many traps this will help.
The trap is fired when the raccoon reaches in for your bait, and instead grabs the trigger, firing the trap. The trigger can only be fired by the raccoon pulling on the trigger. A pull only trigger helps prevent unwanted catches or rodents accidentally firing the trigger. When baiting Dog Proof Coon Traps; apply the lure or bait to a cotton ball or sheep's wool. Place below the trigger so the raccoon has to reach past the trigger to get the bait.
These dog proof traps are galvanized so they do not need to be dyed or waxed to prevent rusting.

I love this trap. My coons CAN'T RESIST the bait and my cats stay the hell out. My live traps are filled with my neighborhood cats as well as a coon or two. But, with you Dog Proof traps I only catch coons. As many coons as I am catching, I might have to stop shooting them and save ammo by clubbing them.

Trouble setting the trap and false triggers

I bought four traps last week. So far, I caught one possum and have had several times where a trap was triggered, but no catch. In these cases, the bait was still present so I think the trigger just slipped. I need to search the internet on filing or modifying the trigger paw or spoon.

No worries about catching pets and a few of these loaded with miniature marshmallows are the stuff for controlling coons. Coons are overtaking Illinois so we remove them from our ecosystem any time we can. Illinois conservation department pays $5. for each coon tail.

It works but no directions.

Took a while to set the trap and there were no directions on how to set it. I had a vice and was able to squeeze it enough to set it. Also no ground spike to hold the chain. Luckily I had some rebar and u-bolt to secure it.
This should be listed as other things needed.

You’ll need to use pliers to bend the end of the spoon outward so it’ll stay set, I have 36 of these traps and they are all like that, but it’s a simple fix and they are very well built traps

Terrible trap

The setting mechanism on these traps are terrible. Two of the five traps I bought would not stay set when baiting the trap. You have to File the trap trigger to keep the dog to stay in there. Why should you have to do this on a new trap?

Had to rough up the contact surfaces on the trigger parts so they'd hold.Worked fine after that. The setting tool is a must.
